Spring is a lie to most Pretorianers. Winter usually ends abruptly with temperatures soaring and this year and heat wave. This year was no exception and it looked like the rain will never come.
Rain is super important to the average African with conversations and prayers being for it and about it. There are a lot of songs either folk or popular culture about it. It really does have a magical quality to it. As a girl from Pretoria, thunder storms were my lullabies growing up and I sleep best when the sky is having an electrical fight with itself.
The rain also brings something else to Pretoria and Gauteng. It brings Jacaranda flowers. These purple blossoms become curtains of colour and change the look of streets. Driving down roads with the purple explosion I keep reminding myself the best neighbourhoods are the purple ones.
