Masses of darkly clad metal heads fans congregated this past Saturday night in Newton. I was part of it of the crowd. I had never been to a proper metal concert and nearly chickened out twice. The crowd was amazing, friendly and no one was in danger.
We went to go see Eluviete which is a, I hope I am saying this right, Swiss German Celtic Symphonic Metal band. Bit of a mouth full to say but wow their music is beautiful.
Their male lead vocalist did a bit of the growling metal sound people often attribute to what they only know as metal. This was paired with a flute, a violin and a Hardy Gurdy. It resulted in this amazing sound, the Scottish in me was transfixed with a sound so traditional to me but in a more modern setting.
They did three sets without pause on Saturday night. The first was more of their newest album music. They then did a folk set which was beautiful, hairs on my arm stood up as Anna their lead female vocalist and Hardy Gurdy player sang. Their last set was a full metal set again. This time they played some of their more known music and the song Fluffy had desperately wanted to hear.
The tickets had not been too expensive actually quite cheap for how amazingly intimate the show was. I doubt there had been ore than 500 people. Including the crazy people that mosh. They had been bought over by witch doctor productions and I hear they might bring more bands in the future.
If I ever do get the chance to see them live again I would go. Even if the show is in Newton and the address confused the crap out of the GPS. Turn right on the third deck of the highway into dance factory isn't possible.
